This animated story from director Hayao Miyazaki follows schoolgirl Satsuke and her younger sister Mei as they stay with their father in an old farmhouse while waiting for their mother to recover from an illness at the district hospital. As the sisters explore their new home, they meet and befriend playful spirits in their house and in the nearby forest, most notably a giant furry creature known as Totoro.
