Damn! When I started watching this AppleTV+ limited series starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline, I had no idea what kind of experience I was in for. "Disclaimer" Based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight, it was written for the screen and directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
It’s essentially a revenge story
Blanchett plays Catherine, a journalist whose past secrets come to light in a disturbing way, forcing her to confront her past as it destroys her entire life. It was a masterfully told story that takes us on a fascinating journey of discovery, showing the audience (sometimes vividly) the “events” of Catherine’s past. Blanchett is fantastic here, as always, and Kline gives a good performance as well.
Note: There are some nice scenes of sex/intimacy in various episodes
It was great to see Sacha Baron Cohen in a more serious role, but he did it right. A few/few niggles aside, I recommend this series if you like character dramas with suspense/drinking. It’s not action-packed, and it took about half an episode (about 30 minutes) before I finally got “hooked” on the story.
