As "The Agency" (UK release 2024; 10 episodes ranging from 50 to 60 minutes) opens, we are introduced to Martian, a CIA agent who is suddenly called back to London after 6 years in Africa. Once he arrives at his new flat in London, he discovers that there are listening devices scattered everywhere. We then travel to Belarus, where a man, evidently drunk, gets into his car and after being chased by the Belarusian police, crashes but survives.
We are now 10 minutes into episode 1
A couple of comments: This miniseries is based on the acclaimed previous French TV series “Le Bureau des Legendes”. It is the latest film from Oscar-winning British director Joe Wright (‘Darkest House’). As episode 1 unfolded, there was a LOT going on (at least 3 parallel storylines) and it took me a while to see and understand the bigger picture. By the time we got to episode 2, I was completely invested in it, as there is tension and drama throughout.

This miniseries benefits greatly from Michael Fassbender’s excellent lead performance (as Martian). By the end of episode 2, I was (and am) ready for more. The first 2 episodes started streaming on SHO a few days ago. Can’t wait!
